Hey guys I'm real excited to introduce to you modPLANT.com. I've been considering this idea for quite some time now.

As some of you may have read, the scene sites like this one have been moved to their own servers and we have a custom built IT infrastructure. This has increased the capabilities of things we can provide for you all but of course increased costs. The main benefit is of course speed.

For any other forums you are on I can't say enough how it helps when you donate. It seems very common that people think because it's on the internet it must be free. While it may be free for the user, someone pays for the servers, dedicated internet line, coding, data centers etc. I know some of you are thinking but Godaddy.com offers hosting for under $10mo. That is correct and while it provides plenty of bandwidth for most sites, these sites have outgrown the capacity of hosting plans like that a long time ago. That is why we have to invest in servers.

I never expect any of you to donate, and I've always looked forward to the time the sites required their own servers. I love this hobby and will always provide these sites to the community no matter the cost.

This brings us to the main reason for starting modplant.com which is of course to help cover costs. Even bigger than that, AJ and I have a vision for these sites that we believe will rival some of the big websites like facebook and myspace. Let's face it you guys have much more interesting things to talk about on the internet then opening a can of coke and going to the doctor for a shot! To do this we'll need to be in control of our time. We need to be our own bosses so to speak so we can develop our new ideas into additions to the sites for you all to enjoy, and work on them every day of the week.

It's always been hard to attract advertisers. Most companies just want to use sites like this so they can make a profit with out giving anything back to the community. It also seems that reliable parts companies are hard to come by. In that respect you can add one more to your list.

I know I just wrote a book but I just wanted to introduce you to modplant and give you a background, and the relation to the sites. Thank you all who have supported the site through our gear, vendors, advertisers, or supporter memberships. Every bit helps!
